1. Experience. Develop a working knowledge of the area in which you are developing as a buisiness. Your experience may not be professional at this point, however, never underestimate the value in what you know no matter the way in which you acquired the skills. For example volunteer experience in invaluable, even though you did not get a paycheck for your skills.
2. Network. - You must develop an active professional contact group. Networking becomes vital to your home business. Don't just rely on them when you need them, keep in touch, even for a cup of coffee.
3. Professional Associations - you must attend conferences and networking organizations to constantly improve your skills. It's a good way to earn credentials and understand how other people execute the skills you have. You may save many years of "trial and error" by learning from colleagues.
5. Knowledge. You must be willing to share your knowledge which means you must acquire knowledg. If you have to work for free to gain contacts and experience in order to share you knowledge. Do it. Remember, you're no longer working for a paycheck. As an entreprenuer you must be willing to go several months before getting paid.
5. SWOT analysis - conduct a Strength, Weakness, Opportunty and Threat analysis on yourself to better understand your own strenghts and weaknesses. You will be able to improve and capatalize on this analysis. If this seems wierd. Pretend you are someone else evaluating you. It may help you to step away from the situation, however, be honest.
There are so many resources to help you. You must be willing to seek them out online. Then, most important, do it. It's fun to dream about working for yourself, however, you have to be willing to struggle and depend on yourself. At the end of the day your success is directly dependent on what you do. No one else to blame so research, take courses, attend conferences and network. But most important - follow through and keep going! Spend time developing your most important resource and asset, you.
Good Luck!
